The Ritchie Family Centre for Supportive & Palliative Care

It has been a long-held dream of the Foundation and the Mater to be able to offer patients a purpose-built, state-of-the-art palliative care facility that would allow Mater patients to continue to be cared for at the hospital when they are faced with a life-limiting illness.  

This dream is now a reality thanks to many of our donors and in particular, the Ritchie and Duncan families. Their generous contributions allowed the Foundation to reach its fundraising goal for the project.

Construction of the new wing began in December 2022 and was completed in January 2026.

The Ritchie Family Centre for Supportive Care provides state-of-the-art facilities in a serene environment, ensuring individuals facing life-limiting illnesses and their families receive the comfort and support they deserve. This facility embodies the Mater's mission by offering patients compassionate end-of-life care and support for their carers.

The Centre provides a peaceful and supportive atmosphere, where patients receive high-quality care while surrounded by their loved ones. It offers a range of services and amenities designed to meet the unique needs of individuals with life limiting-illnesses, including specialised medical care, emotional and psychological support, and practical assistance.
